Rotterdam Hardcore verwijst naar de rauwe hardcore- en gabbersound die begin jaren 90 sterk verbonden raakte met Rotterdam. De stad werd een van de belangrijkste symbolen van @Gabber<\/a><\/a>, @Early Hardcore<\/a><\/a> en de harde Nederlandse ravecultuur.<\/p>\n

De sound was direct, agressief en ongepolijst: harde kicks, simpele maar brute riffs, grove samples en een duidelijke \u201cniet zeuren, rammen\u201d-mentaliteit. Waar sommige rave en house nog zweverig of funky klonken, ging Rotterdam Hardcore veel meer richting beton, havenlucht, trainingspak en kapotte speakers.<\/p>\n

Een centrale naam in deze geschiedenis is @Rotterdam Records<\/a><\/a>, opgericht in 1992 door @Paul Elstak<\/a><\/a>. Discogs omschrijft Rotterdam Records als het eerste Nederlandse hardcore\/gabber-label. Ook de bredere gabbercultuur groeide in de jaren 90 uit tot een grote Nederlandse jeugdcultuur, met events zoals @Thunderdome<\/a><\/a>, dat vanaf 1992 een enorme rol speelde in de verspreiding van hardcore en gabber.<\/p>\n

Rotterdam Hardcore is geen volledig los genre naast gabber, maar eerder een duidelijke stroming, mentaliteit en herkomst binnen @Hardcore<\/a><\/a>. Het staat voor de ruwe beginenergie van de scene, met Rotterdam als harde tegenpool van meer melodische of commerci\u00eble dance. Voor veel liefhebbers is dit de sound waarin gabber zijn tanden kreeg.<\/p>\n
