De stijl ontstond in de jaren 90 en werd later bekender in Frankrijk, Nederland, Itali\u00eb en de bredere Europese hardcorewereld. Oude Frenchcore had vaker een rauwe, industri\u00eble en freetekno-achtige sfeer. Moderne Frenchcore klinkt dikwijls melodischer, euphorischer en festivalgerichter, met artiesten zoals @[Dr. Peacock], @[Radium], @[The Speed Freak], @[Psiko] en @[The Sickest Squad].
